Behind every restored habitat, successful invasive species project, and community science effort is a dedicated volunteer making a difference. Their passion, commitment, and countless hours of service play a vital role in protecting and enhancing our natural resources, and we are incredibly grateful for all they do.

This fall, we had the pleasure of recognizing those contributions at our first volunteer appreciation event, held at the scenic Whetstone Gulf State Park. The event provided an opportunity to connect with volunteers, celebrate their achievements, and reflect on the collective impact they have made across our region.

As part of our commitment to supporting and recognizing volunteers, we also launched the Volunteer Engagement & Impact Program (VEIP). This new initiative celebrates the many ways volunteers contribute to conservation while providing meaningful recognition for their dedication and growth.

Modeled after the development of a thriving forest ecosystem, the VEIP features five achievement levels that acknowledge participation and conservation impact. As volunteers advance through the program, they are recognized not only for their service milestones but also for the conservation and environmental stewardship they cultivate along the way.

Whether you’re already an active volunteer or are looking for a way to get involved, there’s a place for you in our growing conservation community. Together, we can continue protecting habitats, restoring ecosystems, and conserving the natural places that make our region special for generations to come.
