Protecting the Goosebay Watershed from Invasive Species Workshop

Who should attend:

All are welcome to attend the workshop hosted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) Great Lakes Program and the St. Lawrence-Eastern Lake Ontario Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (SLELO PRISM).

 Why attend:

Learn about invasive species threats to the Goose Bay watershed, permitting standards for controlling invasive species and how you can help with monitoring and preventing their spread to protect your watershed.

  3. Overview of the SLELO PRISM and the Volunteer Surveillance Network
  4. Aquatic Invasive Species identification and monitoring   *Please download iMapInvasives Mobile app in advance*

  6. Goose Bay Eurasian Watermilfoil control

At the workshop, we will be reviewing how to monitor invasive species and share your observations using the ImapInvasives mobile application, and ask that you download this application in advance using the following instructions:

  1. Make a free iMapInvasives user account by visiting: https://imapinvasives.natureserve.org/imap/login.jsp (click here if you have trouble)
  2. Check the email you used to create the iMap account to confirm your user account (the mobile app won’t work if you skip this step)
  3. Visit the app store on your mobile device and download the iMapInvasives mobile app.
  4. We will go over how to make observations using the mobile app at the workshop, you just need to create a user account and download the app onto your mobile device.  Click here to learn more about the mobile app on your own.

Directions to Keewaydin Point State Park Marina Pavilion

From NY Route 12, turn on Keewaydin State Park Rd. The road will be on the left if coming from 81, and on the right if you are coming from Alexandria Bay or Goose Bay.

At the fork, keep left to turn towards the marina pavilion, then right to go towards the parking lot for the pavilion. You will see a blue building overlooking the docks to the left, and parking is available just outside the pavilion.
