Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Walk and Talk

October 26, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 2:00 pm

Join us on Friday, October 26th from 10:30am-2pm at Forest Park in Camden, NY.

(This event had been scheduled for 10/11 &10/12 & 10/23 but was postponed due to bad weather. Friday is the last attempt to hold the program outdoors, an alternate indoor workshop may be scheduled for a later date.)

Meet at Raymond Woods Pavilion inside Forest Park, look for SLELO signs (link to detailed map below).

Bring your own bagged lunch/beverages and dress for the weather as the entire event is outdoors. Forest Park has flat paved trails and is wheelchair accessible. Please don’t bring your pets to the event.

Learn about hemlock woolly adelgid, an invasive insect that kills hemlock trees and how to recognize signs of an infestation and report observations. Attendees will be brought on a guided walk and talk on the public trails at Forest Park and be shown how to survey for signs of HWA on site and learn to use the iMapInvasives mobile app to report both negative and positive sightings.

Become a citizen scientist and help increase early detection efforts for HWA. Finding this invasive forest pest early, before it’s population sizes are too large, will help increase the success of management/treatment efforts.
