Join a manual water chestnut removal effort on the Oswegatchie River on Friday, July 17th, 2026.

Registration is required to attend this event and should be completed by each participant no later than July 15th to allow time to process required liability waiver forms. More details regarding launch logistics will be emailed to those who register.

Event Details:

Participants should arrive by 9:45 AM and have their boats ready to launch. The event will kick off promptly at 10 AM with an overview of water chestnut and a hand-pull technique demonstration.

Participants should bring their watercraft, and life jackets are required. Some kayaks, seats in canoes, and life jackets can be borrowed upon request, but space is limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Participants will be guided on a paddle between the Village of Heuvelton Boat Launch and Eel Weir State Park. We will divide into two groups launching from the locations listed below. Each paddle route is approximately 3 and a half miles long, totaling between 3 and 4 hours, depending on how many plants we find and paddle speeds.

Paddle Route 1: launch from the Village of Heuvelton boat launch and paddle to the Horseshoe Campground (approximately 3 miles/3-4hours). This route is best for those who need to borrow a watercraft.

Paddle Route 2: launch from the Horseshoe Camp and paddle to Eel Weir State Park (approximately 3 miles/3-4 hours). This route is best for those who have their own watercraft.
