SUMMARY:Water Chestnut Pulls
DESCRIPTION:Join water chestnut removal efforts occurring in the SLELO region. Water chestnut (Trapa natans) is an invasive aquatic plant that grows thick\, dense\, floating mats that impede aquatic recreation\, reduce waterfront property values\, and alter aquatic ecosystems. Water chestnut populations can be suppressed through manual removals of their floating rosette and nutlets. \nWhat to Expect: Using a kayak or canoe to paddle around a given area to collect the floating rosettes and nutlets of water chestnut and bring them ashore to be disposed of. \n\nIf you plan to host a water chesnut pull in the SLELO region\, please contact megan.pistolese@tnc.org. Help capture state-wide water chestnut control efforts and report pre- and post-treatment data to iMapInvasives.org. SUMMARY:Oswegatchie River Water Chestnut Hand-Pull
DESCRIPTION:Join a manual water chestnut removal effort on the Oswegatchie River on Friday\, July 17th\, 2026. \nRegistration is required to attend this event and should be completed by each participant no later than July 15th to allow time to process required liability waiver forms. More details regarding launch logistics will be emailed to those who register.  \nEvent Details:  \n\nDate: July 17th \nTime: 9:45 AM-3 PM\nWhere: Village of Heuvelton\, NY \nFacebook event\nPress Resease\nEvent graphics (1920 x 1080  1080 x 1080)\n\nParticipants should arrive by 9:45 AM and have their boats ready to launch. The event will kick off promptly at 10 AM with an overview of water chestnut and a hand-pull technique demonstration. \nParticipants should bring their watercraft\, and life jackets are required. Some kayaks\, seats in canoes\, and life jackets can be borrowed upon request\, but space is limited and will be offered on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nParticipants will be guided on a paddle between the Village of Heuvelton Boat Launch and Eel Weir State Park. We will divide into two groups launching from the locations listed below. Each paddle route is approximately 3 and a half miles long\, totaling between 3 and 4 hours\, depending on how many plants we find and paddle speeds.  \nPaddle Route 1: launch from the Village of Heuvelton boat launch and paddle to the Horseshoe Campground (approximately 3 miles/3-4hours). This route is best for those who need to borrow a watercraft.  \nPaddle Route 2: launch from the Horseshoe Camp and paddle to Eel Weir State Park (approximately 3 miles/3-4 hours).
